Unit 4 of 12

What to tell people when you collect their information

Be open about what you collect, why, who sees it, and what happens if it isn't provided.

04IPP 3 — Collection from the individual

Meet the Admissions Lead

The Admissions Lead can ask families for extra information, but must take reasonable steps to make sure people know certain things first. The clearest way to do this is a privacy statement.

A privacy statement should make people aware of:

  1. What information is being collected.
  2. Why it is being collected.
  3. Who will be able to see it.
  4. What happens if they choose not to provide it.
Knowledge check

The Admissions Lead is drafting a privacy statement. True or false?

The school can require certain information from families before offering a place.

A privacy statement has to be written by a lawyer to be valid.
